Foodie - Pastas

I've been really busy for the past few weeks and I rarely cook lunch for bear due to time constrain. I usually cook at least 3 lunch meals per week for us but last few weeks I've been so busy, I could't even eat my lunch on time. So this morning I asked if he wants lunch and his reply was "Don't you want to cook for me? I've only eaten one lunch at home this week..." Shock to hear that my husband misses my cooking and giving me hints that he wants to come home more often for my home cooked meals... So I think it's time to slow down my pace, take things as it comes and try to have a balance lifestyle. Regular workouts, home cooked meals, reading and resting... I do need a breather. Let's see how it goes. This weeks' foodie topic, Pasta. Bear's favourite is angel-hair pasta and I'm a linguini fan. I've tried the One-Pot-Pasta recipies and I have to say it's a life saver! I do make it often because I don't have any instant cook meals at home. No instant noodles, pasta or rice. Everything had to be cooked. When you don't buy instant food, you'll start living a little healthier. Bon Appétit

Recipe:
Boil pasta as directed in the packaging.
In an empty bowl add sesame oil, garlic salt and black pepper. Mix well.
Drain the pasta and toss it in the sesame oil mixture.
Then in a different pan, stir fry your garlic till golden.
Add in veggies and cook it till almost done then crack an egg and close the lid.
Let the veggie and egg steam till the egg's are done to your liking.

Foodie - Bacon & an Artist

"The meal as a blank canvas and the ingredients are like my paints"
It's like how I describe my work. My canvas, brushes and paints now replaced by fabrics, needle and threads. Art is all around and whether you are an artist with a brush, a cook with a spatula or a craftier with a needle, we are all artists. When I create something and it comes to life, I feel happy and alive knowing I've made something I'm proud of and it brings joy to people who sees it. I guess being an artist is as simple as being happy with what you've created.
Happy weekend folks.

Foodie - Roald Dahl's Cookbooks

Stumble upon my favourite author, Roald Dahl's cookbooks. Would love to get my hands on these interesting cookbooks, especially the Completely Revolting Recipes. Never knew Roald Dahl had cookbooks but it's definitely worth collecting since I have all his books. And it'll be fun going through the recipes with all those Quentin Blake's illustrations.

Foodie - Healthy Pasta Salad

Since my mom is on a strict diet, to show her my support I've also been on her diet. I use to take at least 5 to 10 eggs a week. It's too much I know. So I've cut down my egg yolk diet to 2 to 3 yolks a week. I still take my veggie and fruit diet on weekdays but I've cut down on carbs and top up my oats intake. Both sides of my family have history of cardiovascular disease so I can't really take things lightly now. Stumble upon Eating Well site that have some interesting Pasta Salad recipe. I'll try making it next week and the best part is I can make the salad in advance and leave it in the fridge!

Foodie - Palmiers

I've not done any baking for almost more than 6 months. With all that was going on last year, I lost the drive to bake. I did slowly pick up my cooking habits, well I've got to cook my own lunch but believe me when I say I can just simply cook a meal with just eggs and some veggies in 10 minutes. Luckily my husband guided me back to my cooking roots by asking me to cook him healthy veggie lunches. So I did slowly get back into my cooking groves. Now the next challenge is to get back into my baking venture and stuff my hands into those rose textile mittens of mine. I've not picked a date yet but it'll be one of the weekends in April. It's hard for me to bake because baking brings back memories of my aunt and I did promise to bake for her when she recovered but she didn't and now she's with our Father in heaven. But it's time to move on. My mummy misses my tarts and scones. So I'll gather all my courage and take a leap. This palmier recipe from Spook Fork Bacon looks easy and interesting. So I'll bake this as a start. Savoury ones will be this recipe and another one with chocolate chip and cinnamon for dessert. Wish me luck :)
